Artist's Description

Sonic Cruiser: The Sonic Cruiser airliner double delta wing–canard configuration concept was Introduced by Boeing in early 2001. After extensive studies, conferring with airlines and reviewing passenger demands and opinions, a new-generation aircraft that flew higher and faster with long range was preferred.
Avoiding the overland sonic boom problem, the Sonic Cruiser would operate just under the speed of sound at a cruise speed of approximately Mach 0.95 (635 mph). This would reduce by one hour every 3,000 miles (4,828 km) traveled thus, reducing average travel time by 20%. Designed to be slightly smaller than the Boeing 777, the Sonic Cruiser would carry between 100 and 300 passengers, and suited for long range non-stop point-to-point routes. Unfortunately, the 9/11 2001 terrorist attack which altered the airline industry, and rising fuel costs terminated this concept.
