Description
The Hughes H-4 Hercules illuminated under the lights snd starry sky.. Designed and built by Howard Hughes, the eight-engine H-4 was the largest aircraft ever built at the time (320 ft. wingspan), when it made its one and only flight on November 2, 1947. Because of metal shortages during World War II, the H-4 was made of wood. Subsequently, the press nicknamed it the “Spruce Goose”. Howard Hughes not only hated the nickname, the H-4 was actually primarily made of birchwood.
