Description
What Might Have Been: A U.S. Navy F8U-3P photo-reconnaissance fighter. During the late 1950s-early 1960s, the F8U-3 Crusader III flew against the F4H-1 Phantom II, and lost the competition as a Naval carrier-based fighter/bomber. Had it won this image depicts what a reconnaissance variant might have looked like. From the book, "U.S. Combat Aircraft Fly-Off Competitions".
